Brego Welcomes Rupert Pontin as Head of Insight and Communications

Brego is pleased to announce that Rupert Pontin has joined our growing team as Head of Insight and Communications. The appointment of such a high-profile name in the automotive industry reinforces our commitment to strategic expansion as Brego continues to innovate the vehicle valuations and market intelligence space with our pioneering AI technology.

Rupert, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Vehicle Remarketing Association (VRA), has more than 40 years’ experience working within the automotive industry. Rupert spent his early years “selling cars at home”, then moving on to work for franchised dealers, before entering the world of vehicle data and valuations. That was in the early 1990’s when he was presented with an opportunity at Glass’s Guide. Initially, a key focus was working with caravans and leisure homes, before shifting his attention to the specialist and performance car sector.

In 2001, Rupert made the move to BCA, which he says: “brought valuable experience in vehicle remarketing and auctions”. He became involved in the very early stages of online remarketing and auctions with the ‘then groundbreaking’ Audi Stock Market, pioneering a paperless remarketing service that shaped the future of wholesale vehicle sales.

Having run his own car sales business, Rupert returned to Glass's in 2012 to lead the Editorial and Valuation teams covering all asset types in the UK and parts of Europe. Seeking the challenge of evolving a start-up, he joined Cazana in 2017, which used whole market data and pioneering technology to accurately value and forecast vehicle values in a way the industry had not seen before. That business was subsequently bought by Cazoo, and more recently Rupert has worked with other start-up data service providers in the industry.

Rupert became Deputy Chairman of the VRA in 2021, and remains active in this role. A key aim is to guide the association to provide the best insight and support for the members whilst also ensuring that best practice is promoted within the remarketing sector. The association also supports the greater automotive industry in raising awareness of industry issues and challenges.

His joining Brego is timely. Rupert will now play a pivotal role in the next phase of Brego’s evolution, further enhancing recognition within automotive and leisure vehicle markets, helping to drive and support change. He will work closely with our sales team with insights and data for new and existing customers. Rupert also looks forward to providing invaluable market insights for associations, organisations and the media, demonstrating the significant value of Brego’s powerful technology-based market solutions. Adding to this, and bringing his industry experience to the fore, Rupert will also help identify product enhancements, and develop new market opportunities.
